This is how I planted my rhizomes:
I planted my rhizomes in rows spaced 30 inches apart, with each plant spaced 18 inches apart within the rows. Other spacing options like 18"x18" or 24"x24" can also work well.
First, I till the ground thoroughly. Then, I use a chisel plow to create furrows, into which I hand-drop the rhizomes. After placing the rhizomes, I use a 3-point tiller to close the furrows. By extending the toplink, the tiller tills just enough soil (approximately 2-4 inches) to close up the furrows. Occasionally, some rhizomes might come to the surface, which I simply replant by hand.
There are many methods for planting rhizomes, so feel free to use the tools and techniques available to you. If you have any questions, please call 717-445-5060.
